Born in 1950, I received my degrees in painting from the Academy of Applied Arts in Belgrade in 1977. I am active as a painter and my work is widely exhibited in Serbia - Montenegro and abroad. My paintings have received numerous national and international awards and are included in collections in Paris, New York, Berlin and other cities. Guitar building is the art of relating to wood. For generations members of my family have worked with that noble material, and I have inherited their passion. The beginnings of my work as a luthier had to do with sound - an element that was missing in my paintings. I find the connection between painting and sound to be very strong, and my most recent work deals with the correspondence between perfecting the sound of an instrument and creating and refining a vision with pigment. Actually, these two art forms complement and draw inspiration from each other. It is not multimedia per se, but a way for one art form to enrich the other and break out of their ordinary boundaries. I do not play the guitar, but I let exceptional players express themselves through my work. I gain a great deal of knowledge and insight by hearing them, put that energy into my next project and, in these continuous cycles of mutual discovery, we all grow. My painting and guitar-building coexist with a goal of constantly surpassing each other. |
